ColliPark/Interscope recording artist, Soulja Boy, is busy prepping the release of “iSouljaBoy”, the follow-up to his multi-platinum 2007 debut, “Souljaboytellem.com”.
The Atlanta rap star, who recently celebrated his 18th birthday with a lavish mansion pool party, has been the focus of criticism by some industry veterans (most notably Ice-T) for the simplicity of his lyrical content. In a recent interview with Yo! Raps, however, Soulja Boy insists he isn’t stressing over his critics or the possibility that his 15 minutes are just about up.
“It doesn’t really scare me but that’s life,” the rapper says of pressure to duplicate the success of his debut album. “You know, stuff happens. If [”iSouljaBoy”] sells, it sells; and if it don’t, it don’t.”
The BET Hip Hop Award Winner goes on to say that giving 100 percent on the new album will ensure its success, and that despite what some may think, he believes in what he’s doing.
“I know it’s good music,” says Soulja Boy, who is currently nominated for Best New Artist and Best Dancing In A Video for “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” and “Yahhh” at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards (Sept. 6th). “If I go in and half do something and throw some singles out, of course I’m going to get bad results. When you go out and make good music then, you get good results. That’s a proven fact.”
