Lil Wayne Pulls No Show At Boston Show, Jay-Z Fills In

October 28, 2008

Lil Wayne pulled a no show for the JAM’N 94.5 Monster Jam in Boston last night (10/28), according to the Boston Herald.

Weezy, who was scheduled to co-headlined the concert with Jay-Z reportedly refused to go through the Banknorth Garden security and left the venue without taking the stage. To make up for Wayne’s absence, the God MC took the stage earlier complete with his nine-piece band and Cleveland Cavalier Lebron James standing in the background. Jigga even treated fans to a few encores long after his set was over.

Other performers on the bill included Ne-Yo, who brought out Jadakiss, Yung Berg, Brandy, who surprised the crowd with an appearance from her brother Ray J.

This doesn’t mark the first time Weezy pulls a no show. The rapper also refused to go through security and skipped his performance at a Fashion Rocks Show this past September.

Rapper Common Narrowly Avoids Deadly Shooting

October 28, 2008

Chicago rap star Common was nearly a witness in a fatal shooting that has left one man dead and four people injured.

The incident occurred yesterday (October 27) afternoon near the intersection of 704 Fulton Street and South Oxford Street in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn, NY.

According to eyewitness reports, two gunmen opened fire on a 19-year-old man who was waiting at the corner for the friend.

The man fled into a nearby hair salon, and was subsequently cornered and killed by the suspects.

In the fusillade of 30 shots, four innocent bystanders in the shop were hit including an off duty police officer.

Witnesses also allege one of the killers fired a coup de grace shot to the head to make sure the victim perished. Afterward, the suspects fled in a blue Chevrolet Tahoe.

Common, a regular of the establishment, had just received a hair cut hours before the murder, stated Dana Jeter, a representative for the star’s record label.

The brazen shooting comes as a shock to new residents of the recently gentrified Fort Greene, but recalls the 1980s and early to mid 1990s when the area was a ravaged by drugs, crime, and home to such infamous figures as the original 50 Cent aka Kelvin Martin.

No motive for the crime has been determined, although authorities are certain the victim was a scoped target and stalked before the actual shooting.

At press time, the two gunmen are still at large.

In related news, Common’s latest album Universal Mind Control lands in stores December 9.

NU JERZEY DEVIL INTERVIEW 10/12/08

October 12, 2008

Illuminati 2G chopped it up with Black Wall Street’s #1 DJ, Nu Jerzey Devil for a exclusive interview. We discuss his working relationship with Game, the state of the label, his upcoming solo album and much more so here’s the breakdown.

How did you get your start in the game and who are your influences?

I got into the game when I was like 21. I started makin beats for my dudes around the way & some of my beats got into the hands of Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins & his rapper Fats & from there is where I entered the game by signing to Darkchild as in in-house producer.

How did you link up with The Game?

I got up with Game thru my homie Phat Rat in L.A. Rodney Jerkins had moved me out there & when I met Game we was just on some cool shit not really even on some music. But as time past my deal had ended with Darkchild & I took a risk by moving to Compton with Game & here I am, BWS Capo “Nu Jerzey Devil”!

I know alot of people are wondering what the deal is with Black Wall Street. Is there a distributor in place and are there any albums scheduled?

Black Wall Street is a movement. Its not just a label ya dig? We’ve had many offers but have yet to settle for any of them. Clyde Carson has distribution thru BWS/Captiol & I think we’re gonna take the same approach with the other artist meaning having BWS has the label & just use other seperate major to distribute it.

Who is all signed to BWS?

Well you got Juice from Phoenix, AZ, Clyde Carson from Oakland, CA, X.O from Altadena, Ca, Elijah from Harlem & myself from Atlantic City, NJ.

Do you have any mixtapes or albums you will be hosting or hear your production on?

Mostly all BWS mixtape will have some of my production on there but we’re working on a BWS compilation that will feature my production & I’m also working on my solo album called “Devil’s Playground” that will be produced my me & my team “Surround Sound”. My 1st single is with Lil Wayne produced by me & that’s called “Different Girls”! We’re looking to drop that late November.

Damn definitely looking forward to that. How did the New Jersey Giant mixtape come about with you and Fatal Hussein?

That was the homie Fatal who came up with that name. We both from Jersey so it only made sense for us to go in & do something together ya dig? NJ doesn’t have a lot of big name rappers out so we gotta stick together & change that.

What is a typical day for you as far as creating and preparing music on the production and rapping end?

A typical day for me is getting up working out clearing my mind then going to the lab & whatever is in my head at that time is what I would start working on. It always starts with a beat then if I think it fits me I’ll start writing to it, if not I’ll just put it in the volt with the rest of the crack (beats) for another artist.

What details can you give about your album?

Yea like I said I’m working on the solo album called “Devil’s Playground scheduled to drop spring of 09′. So far I got Lil Wayne, Raheem Devaughn, The Game & BWS on there of course. I got a dope new r&b artist from Sobe Ent. by the name of Phyllisa Ross on there. We did a song called “Everybody” that’s beyond bananas! Its a well rounded album though. Its a little different from your ordinary BWS music but it’ll show our versatility & will definitely make an heavy impact in the rap game.

What would be your response to people that say Game is not looking out for his artists by not having them on his album?

I would say that they’re wrong. Its not that he isn’t looking out for us it’s just that timing is everything. Once you shoot u gotta keep firing so unless he feels none of us was ready at the time then we just gotta keep working at our craft until we perfect it. Game is 1 of the dopest artists’ out so whoever is next can’t be no slouch ya dig?

I heard that. What advice would you give to an up and coming producer trying to make it in the game?

Definitely stay focused & humble and you’ll see results. Don’t worry about being rich or the females cause that’ll kill your drive. That’s gonna be there all the time. Once you become successful the money & women will be there but you cannot loose your drive & motivation cause then you’ll fall into the same pocket as the rest of the unsuccessful producers that chase the fame & women.

Alright that is all from me, appreciate the interview. Any last words or shoutouts?

Definitely check out my myspace at www.MySpace.com/NuJerzey & for all BWS info check out www.TheRealBWS.com. Also look out for my album “Devil’s Playground” coming soon!

Billboard’s rock charts are unchanged, with The Offspring’s “You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid” at No. 1 on Modern Rock for a third week and Metallica’s “The Day That Never Comes” leading Mainstream Rock for a second.
