October 22, 2008

There are rumors abound that Busta Rhymes has managed to get 50 Cent and The Game on the same record for his album. How? Well, there is a pre-existing song that features 50 Cent. Busta convinced The Game to do a song for a remix of said record. Well, 50 Cent gave his permission to appear on the remix with The Game for the promo value for his own record, Before I Self Destruct. I heard it is going to hit the net really soon. Stay tuned.

T.I.’s New Disc Flies Off Shelves, Projected to Sell Over 467K

October 2, 2008

Just a day after the release of his highly anticipated sixth studio album, T.I.’s Paper Trail is already causing waves around the country.

SOHH investigated the success of T.I.’s album in New York and in his hometown of Atlanta. At a Circuit City location in NY, a sales rep revealed that Paper Trail sold out by 1:30 yesterday afternoon. “A lot of people were in the store for the album from the time we opened,” the rep told SOHH.

Meanwhile, a mid-town Atlanta Best Buy told SOHH, it was well on its way to clearing the shelves. The store received an influx of calls requesting it and was frequented by fans of the self proclaimed “King of the South.”

The rapper’s previous album T.I. vs. T.I.P. debuted at No. 1 in its first week in 2007 selling 468,000 copies. Popular industry website Hits Daily Double is projecting the new set to sell the about the same numbers in its first week, setting the number at 467,000. The official SoundScan figures come out next Wednesday (September 8th).

Paper Trail features appearances by Jay-Z, Lil’ Wayne, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna and more, along with production by DJ Toomp, Swizz Beatz and Kanye West.

New Kanye West Album Coming In December

September 4, 2008

Word is that Kanye’s first single off his new album will be called “Love LockDown” and his 4th LP is on track to hit stores in December. It will not be called ‘Good Ass Job’.

MTV UK is saying the Yeezy single is scheduled for release through iTunes on Monday, but I think they’re talking out of their ass. We’ll see.

Curtis, you’re probably going to want to hold Before I Self Destruct for early ‘09 just to be safe.

The Game Hits #1 For A Third Time; Talks Success

September 3, 2008

The months of delays and push-backs had little effect on The Game’s momentum, as the Compton MC’s L.A.X. debuted #1 on Billboard’s Top 200 with over 220,000 copies sold.

The album marks Game’s third consecutive #1 debut.

Adamant to fans and media alike this will be his last album, Game feel assured that this album is a fitting end to his legacy as a solo artist and quiets critics who questioned his songwriting ability.

“Being #1 for the third time makes me feel good, especially since I put my all into this album,” a proud Game explained to AllHipHop.com. “There should be no doubt by the critics if a label, producer or hook singer can stagger my ability to make songs or an album. I hope my fans enjoy this one more than others, because this one defines me, my life, and my place in Hip-Hop.”

On iTunes alone, the album sold 130, 000 copies the first day of release.

Manager and mogul Jimmy Rosemond is equally ecstatic about Game success, but seriously doubts the Compton native will hang up the mic after achieving this milestone.

“Sometimes it takes three #1 albums to convince you, that just maybe you shouldn’t retire,” Rosemond reflected. “Game has beat the odds with a classic and great album.”

Black Wall Street/Czar DJ Young Legend echoes Rosemond’s words, but is more impressed that Game was able to deliver in spite of all the legal, personal, and professional conflicts that have played out in the media over the past year.

“L.A.X. is a classic album from front to back,” Young Legend exclaimed. “Even through all the adversity and drama, Game managed to deliver his third classic album to his fans. You can never count the Game out!’”

L.A.X. features a staggering guest list of today’s top Hip-Hop and R&B stars: Lil Wayne, Nas, Ice Cube, DMX, Ludacris, Common Raekwon, Chrisette Michele, Raheem DeVaughn, Bilal, Ne-Yo, LaToya Williams, and Keyshia Cole.

Game’s third album L.A.X. is available now in stores and through iTunes download.

Dr. Dre Buries 20-Year-Old Son

August 31, 2008

Superproducer Dr. Dre buried his son on Friday (August 29), Andre Young, Jr.

According to TMZ.com, more than 200 mourners turned out for the funeral, which took place in Glendale, California at the Church of the Recessional.

The 20-year-old was found dead last Saturday (August 23) by his mother, who called 911 at around 10 a.m. Despite paramedics’ efforts, he pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy was done last week, but it did not reveal the cause of death. Further tests have been ordered to try to discover the cause.

“We don’t know yet why he died,” the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner told People. “There were no signs of trauma or foul play. We’ll be doing toxicology and other tests, which will take up to six weeks.”

The test is “mainly to determine whether alcohol or drugs played a part in a person’s death,” Capt. Winter said.

Young had been out with friends the night prior, and his mother told police that “she recalled hearing him snoring around 5:30 a.m.”

“Dr. Dre is mourning the loss of his son,” the rapper’s publicist Lori Earl said in a statement Tuesday. “Please respect his family’s grief and privacy at this time.”

Dr. Dre has four other children — sons Curtis, 26, Marcel, 17, and Truth, 11, and daughter Truly, 7.
