Lil Wayne sued over Stones song.
August 1, 2008

A musical publishing company that owns the rights to the Rolling Stones’ song “Play With Fire” sued U.S. rapper Lil Wayne on Thursday, saying he released an altered version of the song without permission.
Abkco Music Inc accused Lil Wayne, his artistic collaborators and his record company, a unit of Universal Music Group, of copyright infringement and unfair competition.
The lawsuit filed in federal court in Manhattan seeks unspecified damages.
Lil Wayne’s “Playing with Fire” is a clear derivative of the Rolling Stones song with the original lyrics and music altered in a recognizable way, Abkco said in its lawsuit.
In one example, the lawsuit said a lyric from the Stones song is “But don’t play with me, ’cause you’re playing with fire,” and the Lil Wayne version has the line, “But you can’t blame me if I set this stage on fire.”
Representatives for Lil Wayne and Universal, owned by the French company Vivendi, were not immediately available for comment.
Abkco also said that Lil Wayne’s version uses “explicit, sexist and offensive language” and could lead the public to believe the company and the Rolling Stones approved of and authorized the new version.
Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter, was proclaimed rapper of the year in 2007 by The New Yorker magazine.
Lil Wayne Documentary “The Carter” In The Making
August 1, 2008

Lil Wayne successfully proved that he is the “best rapper alive” with selling over 1 million copies of “Tha Carter III” in its first week.
Now Weezy teamed up with QD3 Entertainment to prepare a documentary on the life and career of Mr. Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. titled “The Carter” for 2009.
“We at Young Money are thrilled to be working with QD3 on the production of The Carter,” says Lil Wayne’s manager Cortez Bryant. “As Weezy’s manager and lifelong friend, I am excited to see Wayne’s story documented with truth and sincerity. Not only is Wayne the hottest musician in the business, but his life story reads something like a Hollywood script enabling this film to break boundaries. And there is no doubt in Wayne’s mind that this film will exceed any and all expectation. He”s a f*cking rockstar!?”
QD3, son of the legendary Quincy Jones, is know for his Tupac Shakur documentary “Thug Angel” as well as the very popular “Beef” DVD series. “The Carter” will be the first biography of Lil Wayne. The project will be directed by filmmaker Adam Lough and will explore the man in the spotlight, his family behind him and his daily grind.
“In my career as a music/producer/film producer I’ve been blessed to have worked with some of the best artists of our time, including Tupac Shakur, LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Ice Cube, and others,” Jones stated. “Lil” Wayne is hands down the Tupac of this generation in that he is a true artist, a world class writer/performer, and he’s not afraid to push the envelop on any level which makes him a true original.??
“QD3 Entertainment is thrilled that Lil” Wayne and Young Money Entertainment has trusted our company to document his life,” Jones continued, “The fact that [Wayne] just sold over 1 million albums in the first week without any media ploys is a testament to the strength of his music and artistry. The goal is to go beyond a standard doc and create a theatrical product that will serve as the definitive documentation of Wayne’s life and career.”
“The Carter” is schedule for a release in 2009.
