The R.E.D. Album will be the fourth studio album by rapper The Game, to be released by Interscope Records. Although The Game planned to retire after releasing his previous album LAX in 2008, he decided to start working on his fourth album the next year. The album is currently set for a 4th Quarter 2009 release.
The Game is set to release his fourth upcoming album under Interscope Records and not Geffen.
The Game, who debuted on a major label in 2005 with The Documentary, planned to retire after finishing his 2008 album LAX. In an interview with HipHopDX in June 2008, The Game asserted that Interscope wanted him to release another album in early 2009 rather than retire. Although he wanted to retire, he expressed the will to put off retirement to record another album after LAX.
Producer Maestro asserted that The Game was, in March 2009, recording this album in Atlanta. The Album is slated to hit shelves in early December. “He’s slated for an early December release,” Rosemond said of the album. Along with Cool & Dre, The R.E.D. Album will possible feature collaborations from Lil' Wayne, Lady GaGa, Pharrell, Kanye West, and Gucci Mane, according to Rosemond. On August 8, 2009, whilst on the Austalian leg of his L.A.X. tour The Game wrote on Maestro's Twitter page calling him 'his new favourite hitmaker' and stating his track will be featured on The R.E.D. Album.
The Game said in an interview in early May with Guerrilla Journalism: "I'm working on album number four, ain't really got no concept or nothin' yet. I'm just startin' it out. I did a couple records in New York that I really like a lot but not 'til I get back to Cali on Monday that I'm really gonna go in."[10] The Game's new LP, The R.E.D. Album, was not inspired by him being a Blood. It's not a clever play on words or some type of tip of the fitted cap to Jay-Z's Black Album. Nah, the Compton native's CD is all about him restarting his engine.
"The R.E.D. Album, people think the R.E.D. stands for gangbanging. I am what I am. ... R.E.D. — that's rededicated. Rededicated to hip-hop ... to my 'hood, Compton. Rededicated to my family, rededicated to everything." And yes, that rededication means the end of Game's retirement talk. He says the album will be out in '09, and he's already been in the studio with Timbaland, J.R. Rotem, Drumma Boy and former Aftermath producer Mike Lynn. Cool and Dre are scheduled to come in on the album, and Game also hopes to track Kanye West down for beats. "The R.E.D. Album is about to be serious, man," he promised. "It's a step up. The R.E.D. Album, it's a little soulful, I gotta say. Still gangsta — we getting it in. I'm keeping everything on wraps right now.
